AD is a form of dementia. There are many types and a person can suffer more than one type of dementia, at the same time.
All people with Alzheimer's disease with dementia.
Not all people with Alzheimer's disease.
Dementia is a general loss of cognitive abilities - including all aspects of disturbed perception, thought and memory, planning, organization and the ability to think abstractly. The causes are a large number of conditions, some reversible and some progressive, causing brain damage or dysfunction is widespread.
The most common cause is Alzheimer's disease, others are cerebrovascular disease, central nervous system infection, trauma or brain tumors, vitamin A, anoxic (without oxygen), metabolic disorders, endocrine disorders, immune disorders, the diseases caused by prions, and more.
